Banjara / Guar is a community in India spread across Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. They are also spread in other states of India. Locally they are known by different names such as Banjara, Lambadi, Sugali, Lambani, Lumani, Ghor, Guar etc. They live in settlements called Tandas. They have a unique culture and Dance form. Their women wear colorful and beautiful costumes and have tattoos on their hands. A model of a Lambadi Women with her picturesque dress is one of the most attractive exhibits at the Chennai museum. They are classified as Scheduled Tribes in Telangana & Andhra Pradesh, as schedule caste in Karnataka, and as backward cast in Maharashtra. They speak the Lambadi Language. Their traditional occupation is agriculture and trade.
